Axia Home Loans: Company History and What Happened
Axia Home Loans was a full-service retail mortgage lender founded in 2007 and headquartered in Bellevue, Washington. It operated as a registered trade name of Axia Financial, LLC, under NMLS# 27830. The company became known for being 100% employee-owned through an ESOP, and for its focus on educating first-time buyers before closing.
At its peak, Axia Home Loans had branch offices in 17 states, with a strong presence in the Pacific Northwest, California, and the Midwest. Its loan officers offered conventional, FHA, VA, USDA, and reverse mortgages, along with down payment assistance programs.
Is Axia Home Loans still in business?
No. Axia Home Loans stopped accepting new mortgage applications in 2024. In August 2024, Connecticut-based Planet Home Lending announced that it had acquired certain retail assets of Axia Home Loans, and many former Axia loan officers and branches moved to Planet. If you are looking for a new home loan, Axia is no longer an option. You will need to work with a currently licensed lender.
I have an Axia Home Loans mortgage. What should I do?
Your loan still exists and your terms do not change because the lender stopped originating loans. Most mortgages are sold or transferred to a loan servicer shortly after closing, so the company you pay each month may not be Axia at all. Here is how to find out who handles your loan:
- Check your most recent mortgage statement. The servicer’s name, phone number, and payment address are printed on it.
- Look for a “Notice of Servicing Transfer” letter. Federal rules require both the old and new servicer to notify you when servicing changes.
- Use the MERS ServicerID lookup at mers-servicerid.org to find your current servicer by property address.
- Never send a payment to a website or phone number you found through a search engine. Only use the contact details on your official statement.
How to verify any mortgage lender
Every legitimate mortgage company and loan officer in the U.S. has an NMLS ID. You can look up Axia Financial, LLC (NMLS# 27830) or any other lender for free on the NMLS Consumer Access website. It shows the company’s licensing status, the states it is licensed in, and any regulatory actions.
